101 Nanchon

Refers to the 101 ethnic groups and their associated lwa woven together in Haitian Vodou. Although the actual number of African cultures blended into Vodou remains unknown, the number 101 follows a symbolic pattern found in Vodou tradition—mirroring the structure of 21 nanchon (nations) and pantheons of either 251 or 401 lwa. This pattern represents the idea that the Vodou system is ever-expanding, allowing for the continual addition of new nations or lwa.
