Brother of Christopher Columbus, Bartholomew served as Adelantado (governor) of Hispaniola during his brother’s absences. He founded the city of Santo Domingo and explored other regions, including Xaragua. He attempted alliances with indigenous leaders like Bohéchio and Anacaona but also faced rebellion from both the native population and Spanish settlers.
