Ojeda was a Spanish explorer and soldier who served under Columbus during his voyages. Known for his physical agility and military prowess, he was also infamous for his ruthlessness. He played a key role in the capture of Caonabo through deceit and was central in suppressing indigenous uprisings. His later expeditions continued Spain’s violent incursions into the New World.
